CORPUS CHRISTI INITIATIVE ENDS WITH RECORD BREAKING NUMBERS

Catholic School Bishop Edmond Carmody and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi partnered with CatholicsComeHome.org to launch a multimedia television and internet evangelization campaign during Lent 2009. “. . . this is the best program we have put forth and by far reached the most people,” stated Msgr. Mark Chamberlain from the Diocese. The Diocese of Corpus Christi, Texas, experienced great success with its 2009 bi-lingual www.catholicscomehome.org and www.catolicosregresen.org campaign, where initial results showed a 17.7 percent increase in weekly Mass attendance throughout 38 surveyed parishes.  Interestingly, Hispanics responded at nearly the same rate to the Spanish language commercials and Web site.

Catholics Come Home, Inc. is a lay Catholic organization faithful to the Church’s teachings.  It creates effective and compassionate media messages and broadcasts them nationally and internationally to inspire, educate and evangelize inactive Catholics and others to come home to our faith family.

“I spoke with some Protestant pastors who wished they had this type of commercials,” said Msgr. Shirley, Vicar General of the diocese.  “I love the commercials.  They bring me to tears,” added a staff member.

A recent study completed by George Barna showed that over 70% of persons who actually returned to church did so after a personal invitation to attend the church.

The Director of St. Joseph in Beeville, Texas relayed the story of a gentleman who had not gone to confession since his First Communion when he was eight years-old.   After seeing the CatholicsComeHome.org commercials welcoming him home, the now 32 year-old made an appointment to see a priest.  “He was spiritually lost and wants to become part of the Church again,” added the Director.

“It got the wheels of evangelization turning in many parishes,” said Fr. Eduardo Montemayor, Director of the Diocesan Department for Evangelization.  “This was a dream come true.”
